Getting paid is where most UGC careers in Mexico actually stall. The filming is the easy part; collecting from a client who has already published your video is the skill that keeps the business alive.
How the money arrives
Domestically, SPEI transfer against a CFDI is the standard and it is fast once approved. From abroad, payments come by international transfer or a payment platform, and the exchange rate applied on the day can move the final figure by several percent.
Payment terms are the real negotiation
Large companies pay at thirty days or more and their cycles are rigid. Small brands can pay immediately. Ask about the payment cycle before agreeing the price, because a slow client at a good rate can still be worse than a fast one at a lower rate.
Ask for an advance on the first job
Fifty percent up front on a first project with a new client is normal and almost nobody refuses it. It filters out the clients who were never going to pay, and it costs you nothing to ask. Established clients can move to payment on delivery.
Put the terms in writing before filming
Deliverables, revisions included, the delivery date, the usage licence and the payment deadline. A short written agreement in a message thread is enough. Almost every unpaid job in this business traces back to something that was agreed verbally and remembered differently.
Do not hand over the final file first
Send a watermarked or low resolution version for approval and release the clean file when the payment is confirmed or the terms say so. This is standard practice, not distrust, and clients who work with creators regularly expect it.
