In Argentina, being able to invoice is not an administrative formality, it is what defines which clients you can take. An agency or a mid sized company needs the document in order to pay you, so without invoicing you are limited to small shops paying cash.

What the document must carry

Your tax details, the client's, the service description, the amount and the date. The description matters more than it seems: writing "audiovisual content production services" is clearer for a purchasing department than "video for Instagram", and stops the invoice coming back rejected.

Issuing before or after payment

The usual practice is issuing when the job is agreed or on delivery, depending on what the client asks. What matters is that the document date and the payment date do not drift too far apart, because it complicates your own tracking later. Ask the client how they need it before issuing.

Large clients have their own circuit

Mid sized and large companies have a supplier onboarding process, with forms and their own payment terms. It is not mistreatment, it is their circuit. Asking upfront how long payment takes from receipt of the invoice stops you thinking you are being avoided when you are simply waiting a standard term.

Keep everything

Issued invoices, written agreements, messages where the client approves the work. In a payment dispute that is your backup. One folder per client per year is enough, and it costs nothing to start from the first job.

When an accountant makes sense

As soon as invoicing stops being occasional. The monthly cost of an accountant is low compared with a badly handled category change or a debt building up without you noticing. It is one of the first things worth delegating.
