Almost every UGC creator in France starts alongside something else: a job, studies, sometimes both. The question is not whether it is allowed, but which rules apply to your situation.

Private sector employee

You can register as an auto entrepreneur and invoice, unless your employment contract prevents it. The points to check before starting:

An exclusivity clause

It exists in some contracts and restricts carrying out another professional activity. Its scope is regulated, but it is better to read it than to discover it.

A non compete clause

It targets your sector. If your employer sells beauty products and you film for a competing beauty brand, the issue is real.

Loyalty

You cannot work for a direct competitor or use company resources, including your working hours.

In practice, filming at weekends for brands in another sector poses no problem. Telling your employer is not always compulsory, but it is often more comfortable.

Public sector employee

The rules are stricter and deserve to be checked with your administration. Combining activities is regulated, some secondary activities are possible under conditions and others are not. This is the one case where you should not improvise.

Student

No incompatibility in principle. You can register, invoice and contribute. Simply check the effect on any grants or benefits according to your income, and declare correctly.

The strategy that works when combining

Sell deliverables, not availability. A pack of three videos due within eight days fits a busy week; a full day on location on a Tuesday does not.

Film in blocks, two sessions a month, rather than a little every evening.

Announce deadlines you can keep. Delivering in four days after promising five is better than the reverse.

And set yourself a switching indicator: three recurring clients and predictable income over six months. On that day, going full time is a decision made with numbers, not with enthusiasm.

Where to go next

Combining is the normal way to start. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers portfolio, pricing and outreach.
