The question that holds back a UGC creator in Spain is not how to film, it is how much registering costs. And the answer matters, because the self employed contribution is due whether or not you invoiced anything that month.

The two things you pay

The monthly social security contribution, which today depends on the earnings you estimate and is reconciled later against what you actually made. For newcomers there is a reduced rate for the first months, designed precisely so a business that is not yet invoicing does not drown.

Taxes, which are not a fixed fee: the VAT you charged minus the VAT you paid, and income tax on your profit, less what company clients already withheld.

The practical consequence is simple: the contribution is a fixed cost, the taxes are variable. Which is why the decision is not only legal, it is planning.

When to register

If you already have a company client waiting, registration is immediate and not up for debate: no invoice, no payment.

If you are still building a portfolio with no income, there is no sense in paying a monthly contribution for an activity that does not exist yet. Use that time to film, to prospect and to close the first job, and register when that job is confirmed.

The expensive middle ground is accepting work for months without being registered. Beyond the risk, it locks you out of the brands that actually pay well.

What to do on the day you register

Choose the activity classification that matches what you do, because obligations and deductions follow from it.

Open a separate bank account for the activity. It is not compulsory and it saves hours of bookkeeping.

Decide whether you handle the paperwork or delegate it. An accountant costs a fraction of your monthly rate and prevents the kind of mistake discovered a year late.

An honest calculation before starting

Add the contribution, the share of tax you will set aside and your equipment costs, then divide by your average fee per video. That number is how many videos a month you need for the activity to sustain itself. It is almost always smaller than people fear, and seeing it written down changes the decision.

Where to go next

Registration is paperwork; the activity is what has to be built. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers portfolio, pricing and first clients.
