Brazilian retail runs on dates. Mother's day, Valentine's day in June, Black Friday and Christmas concentrate a large share of annual revenue, and every category has its own peaks around them. Most brands remember this three weeks before the date, which is exactly when good creators are already booked. Planning user generated content around the commercial calendar, with real lead times, is one of the cheapest performance gains available to a brand in Brazil.

The dates that actually move money

The Brazilian calendar is denser than the European or American one, and the peaks sit in different months.

  • January: back to school and high summer. Stationery, uniforms, electronics, swimwear, sunscreen, travel.
  • February and March: Carnival, then Consumer day on the fifteenth of March, which has become a genuine ecommerce event.
  • March and April: Easter, dominated by chocolate but useful for food, gifting and family categories.
  • May: Mother's day, the second biggest retail date of the year in Brazil.
  • June: Valentine's day on the twelfth, plus the festas juninas, a large seasonal moment for food, drink and clothing.
  • August: Father's day, strong for electronics, tools, watches, footwear and grooming.
  • September: Customer day on the fifteenth, increasingly used as a pre Black Friday test.
  • October: Children's day on the twelfth, the peak for toys, kidswear and family experiences.
  • November: Black Friday, the largest online sales event of the Brazilian year.
  • December: Christmas and the summer holidays running together.

Work backwards from the date

The mistake is treating UGC as something you order when the campaign is approved. Build the schedule from the peak backwards.

Count roughly eight weeks before the date to brief and select creators, because the good ones fill their calendar first. Ship the product six weeks out, since delivery inside Brazil is genuinely slow to the North and Northeast. Filming and delivery take one to two weeks. Editing, subtitles and the variations you will test take another week. That leaves two weeks before the peak to run the ads on a small budget, find the winning hook, and scale it into the date with confidence rather than hope.

What to film for each season

Seasonal UGC is not the same video with a discount sticker on it. Each moment has a format that fits.

Gifting dates, which means Mother's day, Valentine's day, Father's day and Christmas, are owned by the unboxing and the reaction. Film the gift being received, not just the product. Sales events like Black Friday and Consumer day reward urgency and proof: what you bought, what it cost, whether it arrived, whether it was worth it. Cultural moments like Carnival and the festas juninas reward the product inside the real scene, with heat, crowd, music and mess. Back to school rewards the practical demonstration, the routine and the parent's point of view.

The southern hemisphere trap

Brands that import creative from Europe or North America get this wrong every year. In Brazil, Christmas is summer, so the cosy winter scene reads as foreign. June is the cold month in the South and the festa junina month everywhere. School holidays run in July and from December to January. Any seasonal reference filmed abroad has to be re shot locally, which is another argument for a Brazilian creator roster.

Buy rights that outlive the date

Seasonal content is expensive if you use it once. Buy usage rights long enough to run the same asset again the following year, and brief creators to avoid saying the year out loud or naming a specific discount, so the video stays reusable. A strong Mother's day testimonial can serve three seasons; a video that says "fifty percent off this Friday" dies on Saturday.

A yearly plan that stays manageable

Split your content roughly seventy per cent evergreen and thirty per cent seasonal. Commission in quarterly batches, each one covering the dates in the next quarter plus a refresh of the evergreen library. Keep a roster of creators you already trust so the seasonal rush becomes a scheduling exercise rather than a search.

Two habits make this work. Keep a shared calendar with brief dates, shipping dates and delivery dates for every peak. And record what performed after each season, because next year's brief writes itself from this year's winners.
