Becoming a UGC creator in Mexico takes about six weeks of real work: a handful of videos, an RFC, a price list and a hundred pitches. Nothing about it requires an audience, a camera or an agency.

The first videos come from your own shelf

Film three products you already own and use. A skincare step, a kitchen tool, a phone accessory. Vertical, natural light, clean audio, thirty seconds. These are not portfolio filler, they are the proof that you can hold a product and speak to a camera without it feeling staged.

Registering with the SAT

Do this early. Registration as a person doing professional activity is enough, and it unlocks the ability to issue a CFDI. Without it you are limited to informal clients paying by transfer with no invoice, which caps your income at a level you will hit within two months.

Setting a first price

Start at the bottom of the realistic peso range for a single video, not at zero. Free work does not convert into paid work, it teaches the client that your time is free. Raise the number after every five accepted quotes until people start hesitating.

LevelRange per video
First videos, local business800 to 1,500 pesos
With a solid portfolio2,000 to 5,000 pesos
Pack of three to five videos6,000 to 15,000 pesos

Bill usage rights separately. The base price buys a video for organic posting; running it as a paid ad is a different product and a different line on the quote.

Finding the first clients

Small ecommerce brands on Instagram and Mercado Libre, local restaurants, and any brand already running ads that look badly filmed. Send them one specific idea for one of their products, not a general offer of your services. That difference is the entire outreach strategy.

What separates the ones who last

Most creators lose clients on logistics rather than on quality, which is good news, because logistics is learnable in a week.

Deliver on the agreed date

A deadline you always hit is rarer than talent, and it is the thing a client remembers when deciding whether to order again. If something slips, say so before the date, not after.

Send the file in the right format

Vertical, the resolution the brief asked for, no watermark, no music you do not have the rights to. A file the client cannot run is the same as no file at all.

Answer the same day

Not instantly, the same day. Brands work to campaign calendars, and a creator who goes quiet for three days gets replaced by one who does not.

Getting paid without chasing

Two things decide whether the money actually arrives. The first is the CFDI: a structured client cannot pay an invoice it cannot record, so a creator without one is capped at informal work. The second is when the money moves. With a direct client, ask for half upfront and never send the raw file before the balance clears. On a marketplace the brand's payment is held before you start filming and released once the delivery is approved, which removes the conversation entirely.

One practical detail: put the usage rights on their own line, both on the quote and on the CFDI. A single line reading "video production" is what lets a client argue later that the ad rights were included, and that is the argument you cannot win after delivery.
