Ask any Brazilian retailer which dates make or break their year and you will hear the same names: Black Friday, Natal, Dia das Mães. Brazil has built its own seasonal calendar, a mix of imported events and homegrown commercial dates, and e-commerce activity concentrates heavily around these peaks. For brands, that concentration cuts both ways. Buying intent surges, but so do ad costs and competition for attention. This is exactly where user generated content (UGC) earns its place: authentic creator videos that feel like a recommendation from a friend, landing at the moment when Brazilian consumers are most saturated with polished ads.
Why UGC matters more during Brazilian peaks
Brazilian shoppers are famously skeptical of Black Friday promotions. The old joke about discounts being "metade do dobro" (half of double the price) has shaped consumer behavior for years: people research, compare prices in advance and wait for proof that an offer is real. A glossy studio ad does little to overcome that skepticism. A real person unboxing the product, testing it on camera and giving an honest opinion does far more.
There is also a cost argument. In November, ad auctions on Meta and TikTok become intensely competitive as thousands of brands chase the same audiences. When media gets expensive, creative quality is the main lever you still control. Brands that arrive at Black Friday with a tested library of UGC creatives can scale what already works instead of guessing under pressure.
The Brazilian seasonal calendar
Black Friday is the headline event, but a serious UGC strategy maps to the full year:
- Dia do Consumidor (Consumer Day, mid March): often treated as the "Black Friday of the first half" by Brazilian e-commerce
- Dia das Mães (Mother's Day, second Sunday of May): one of the strongest gifting dates in Brazilian retail
- Dia dos Namorados (Brazilian Valentine's Day, June 12): couples and gifting focus
- Dia dos Pais (Father's Day, second Sunday of August)
- Semana do Brasil (September): a national promotional week
- Black Friday (late November): many retailers now stretch it into a full "Black November"
- Natal (Christmas, December): peak gifting season, immediately after Black Friday
Each date has its own emotional register. Dia das Mães calls for warm, family oriented storytelling. Black Friday calls for urgency, proof and price framing. The same product needs different UGC for each moment.
Plan backwards from the date
The most common mistake international brands make in Brazil is briefing creators too late. Work backwards from the sale date and you will see why six to eight weeks of lead time is realistic:
- Lock your offer and hero products.
- Select and contract creators, including usage rights for paid ads.
- Ship products. Brazil is continental, and delivery to creators in different regions takes time.
- Production and revisions, ideally in batches so you get volume.
- Test creatives with small budgets before the peak, so only winners get big spend.
Negotiate ad usage rights upfront, with a clear duration. Renegotiating rights in the middle of Black Friday week is a situation you do not want.
Formats that perform in seasonal campaigns
A few UGC formats consistently fit Brazilian peak seasons:
- Esquenta content: warm-up videos in the weeks before the date, building wishlists and anticipation
- Unboxing and haul videos, which feel native to Brazilian TikTok and Reels culture
- Honest testimonials that mention the offer without sounding like a script
- Gift guide videos for Natal, Dia das Mães and Dia dos Namorados, grouping several products
- "Why I waited for Black Friday" angles, which speak directly to the skeptical, price aware Brazilian buyer
Whatever the format, the video must be native pt-BR: a Brazilian creator, Brazilian slang, and references that match how people actually shop. Mentioning practical details like Pix payment or installment options (parcelamento) makes the content feel local in a way no translation can.
Timing and distribution
Do not save everything for the day itself. Run esquenta content early in November, test hooks organically and with small paid budgets, then push spend behind the top two or three creatives as the date approaches. After Black Friday, do not stop: your best performing videos can be recut and reused for Natal remarketing, when many undecided shoppers finally buy.
Seasonal campaigns reward brands that treat UGC as a pipeline, not a one off order. Build relationships with a bench of Brazilian creators across the year, and each peak becomes an execution exercise instead of a scramble.
