The most common reason people in Mexico never start doing UGC is a belief that they need an audience first. They do not, and the confusion between UGC and influencer work costs a lot of capable creators a year of waiting.

The two jobs are different

An influencer sells access to their audience. A UGC creator sells a file: a video the brand owns and publishes on its own channels or runs as a paid ad. Nobody watching that ad knows or cares who filmed it, which is precisely why your follower count is irrelevant.

What brands actually assess

Whether the lighting is decent, whether the audio is clean, whether you sound like a person rather than an advertisement, and whether you deliver on the date you promised. All four are learnable and none of them depends on an audience.

Why this is an advantage in Mexico

The supply of people with large followings is limited and expensive. The supply of people who can film a clean, believable thirty second product video is much smaller than the demand, especially for creators who can also work in English for cross border clients.

Where the first clients come from

Small ecommerce brands, restaurants, marketplace sellers and any business already running badly filmed ads. Approach with a specific idea for a specific product. That works with zero followers and it keeps working at every stage after.

What to build instead of an audience

A portfolio, a price list, an RFC and a habit of answering messages quickly. Those four things are worth more in this business than fifty thousand followers who do not buy anything.
