Lyon is France's second advertising market and the only city outside Paris where a national brand can build a campaign without flying anyone in. Food, health and biotech, chemicals, industry, ecommerce: the economic fabric is dense and it pays. For a creator working in user generated content, it offers the best ratio of available budget to competition.

An economy of food, health and industry

Food is the shop window, from the traditional bouchons to starred restaurants, with a whole supply chain of producers, delicatessens and food brands behind it. Health is the quiet engine: biotech, medical devices, laboratories and clinics, a wealthy sector that communicates poorly in short form.

Add the chemicals and industry of the valley, the technical textiles inherited from silk, a solid ecommerce base and two universities feeding the city with a young audience. All of it two hours from Paris by train, close enough to shoot there for the day.

The sectors that hire in Lyon

  • Food and gastronomy: product brands, delicatessens, restaurants and delivery apps, with a cultural credibility that sells on its own.
  • Health and wellness: supplements, devices, clinics and pharmacies, with the care health advertising requires.
  • Industry and B2B: chemicals, materials, machinery and technical services, a high ticket client with almost no creators in front of it.
  • Fashion and technical textiles: local brands, sport and workwear.
  • Ecommerce: online born brands buying video every month for their campaigns.
  • Beauty: cosmetics, hair and salons, with a very active urban audience.

The industrial client, the best paid niche

This is the subject most creators ignore. A company selling a machine or a technical service does not need an influencer: it needs somebody able to understand a complex product and explain it in sixty seconds, in a video its sales rep will email or post on LinkedIn.

Getting in takes form: a written proposal, scope, deadlines, a clean invoice and confidentiality if you film on the shop floor. One well managed industrial client fills several months, and comes back with every new product.

How to find clients

The direct route works well in a city where the business fabric is accessible: a public portfolio, a short message with two samples and a price, to a brand you already buy from. Shops in the Pentes, Part Dieu or Confluence answer fast.

For large accounts and agencies, present yourself as a supplier: auto entrepreneur status, written rates, a portfolio sorted by sector, quick answers. And a UGC marketplace profile to catch Parisian or foreign brands looking for a creator outside Paris, often for budget reasons.

What creators charge

As a French reference: a single video runs a hundred and twenty to two hundred and twenty euros at the start, and two hundred and twenty to four hundred and fifty euros with a strong portfolio. Packs of three to five videos sell between five hundred and thirteen hundred euros. Industrial and health clients pay above average, especially when the video runs at trade fairs, on LinkedIn or in sales material. Paid media rights and exclusivity are billed separately.

Where to go next

Lyon offers real budget, entire sectors without competition and Paris two hours away. To turn that into paid work, our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers building the portfolio, setting prices and closing the first collaborations.
