When a London brand decides its national campaign should not sound like London, this is usually where it looks.
That sentence is the whole commercial position of a Manchester creator, and most people here undersell it.
A media city, not an industrial one
Manchester is not the north as a factory. It is the country's second production centre, with broadcasters, studios, post houses, crews and a genuine freelance ecosystem.
The practical consequence is that almost everything London has is available here, at a lower cost base, without the two hour journey to reach a client. That is a rarer combination than it sounds.
What your accent is actually worth
For national campaigns
A brand selling across Britain does not want every video to sound like the south east, because most of its customers do not. A northern voice is not a compromise in that brief, it is the requirement.
Say it plainly in your profile. Brands search for it and very few creators state it.
For northern brands
There is also a large local buyer base that would rather not sound like London at all: retail, ecommerce, food, sport, education. For them a London creator is the wrong casting, and you are the default rather than the alternative.
What you have here, and what you still do not
| What is available locally | What it changes for a shoot | What still means going to London |
|---|---|---|
| Studios and kit rental | You can take briefs that need more than a phone | Very little, this is genuinely covered |
| Crew and freelancers | You can scale to a two person shoot without importing anyone | Large productions with agency oversight |
| Brand and retail head offices | Real clients within driving distance | The agencies that hold national rosters |
| A lower cost base | Your floor is lower than a London creator's | Nothing, this is purely an advantage |
The third row is the one worth planning around. The work is here; a share of the decisions still is not.
The lower floor, and how not to waste it
A lower cost base is an advantage until you turn it into a discount.
If you price against London creators simply because you can afford to, you have handed the saving to the client and kept the lower income. The better use of the same advantage is to accept the work London creators cannot make pay, which is smaller briefs, faster turnarounds and regional shoots, and to charge your normal rate for them.
Cheap is a position anyone can take next month. Available, local and reliable is not.

Yes, explicitly. Brands cast for non London voices on national work and almost nobody states it.
Should I charge less than a London creator?
No. Use the lower cost base to take work they cannot make pay, at your normal rate.
