The mistake is to work Porto like a city. The interesting clients are not in the centre, they are forty minutes out, in industrial buildings with no sign on the door, making things that end up in shops across Europe under somebody else's name.

Lisbon sells services in English. The north makes objects and exports them. That difference decides what a creator does here.

What the north actually makes

What is made around PortoWhat the brand needs to show
Footwear and leather goodsThe stitching, the sole, the hand doing the work
Textiles and knitwearFabric close up, drape, how it survives washing
Cork and derivativesThe material nobody understands, explained in sixty seconds
Furniture and joineryFinish, joints, assembly in a real room
Port wine and Douro estatesThe place, the process, the visit that can be booked
Food and canningThe line running, and the product opened on a table

None of that is a dance. It is hands, texture and process, filmed cleanly, often in a language the buyer abroad speaks rather than in Portuguese.

Why these clients pay properly

They sell abroad

A factory supplying European brands needs material a foreign buyer understands. That is a business expense with an export budget behind it, not a marketing whim, and it is priced accordingly.

They have nobody else

Almost no creator wants to spend a morning in a footwear factory. The ones who do stop competing on price, because there is nobody to compare them against.

What it asks of you

Learn the vocabulary before you arrive. You do not need to be technical, you need to not say something wrong on camera, and a fifteen minute call with the person who runs the line prevents that entirely.

Agree in writing what you may film and who appears. Production areas and staff are sensitive subjects for these companies, and asking first is what gets you invited back.

And offer the subtitled version by default. It is the cheapest thing you can add and it is the reason your video travels to the market that actually buys.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need technical knowledge?

No, but you need to understand the product well enough not to claim something untrue.

Is Porto cheaper to work in than Lisbon?

Living costs less, and the industrial clients pay above local consumer rates.

What should I offer first?

A process video with a subtitled export version. Almost nobody proposes it.
