Toronto is the biggest UGC market in Canada and the one where you compete against the most people. Rates are the highest in the country, and so is the number of creators pitching for them. Standing out here is a positioning problem, not a production problem.
Do not sell generalist
A brand in Toronto can find fifty creators who film well. What it cannot easily find is someone who knows its category: financial services that cannot overpromise, a supplement brand with claim limits, a franchise with brand standards. Pick a lane and say it in the first line of your profile.
The agencies are the real client
A large share of budget flows through agencies rather than directly from brands. That changes the pitch: they care about turnaround, file delivery, revisions and whether you can be briefed once and deliver on time. Reach is close to irrelevant to them.
Diversity is a business requirement
Toronto brands sell to one of the most multicultural populations on the continent, and their content has to reflect it. If you speak a second language beyond English, say so explicitly. Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tagalog, Spanish and Portuguese all open doors here that no camera upgrade opens.
The French question
A brand that sells nationally will eventually need a French version for Quebec. If you cannot deliver it, say so early and, better, have someone to recommend. Being the creator who solved that problem for a client is how a one off job turns into a retainer.
Winter and studio corners
From December to March the outdoor window is short and cold. The creators who keep billing through winter are the ones with a reliable indoor setup and a portfolio that proves it, not the ones who wait for May.
