Val d Or and the Abitibi region run on mining and forestry, hundreds of kilometres from anywhere. For a creator that remoteness is not a disadvantage, it is the entire commercial position.

Nobody is going to drive here to compete

The nearest large creator pool is many hours away and nobody is making that trip for a one day shoot. A reliable creator based in the region effectively has the local market to themselves, and can price accordingly rather than competing with Montreal rates.

Mining is a serious video client

Recruitment above all, in a sector that struggles constantly to attract workers to a remote region. Then safety communication, community relations, investor material and supplier presentations. These are budgets that do not sit in a marketing department and do not disappear in a downturn.

Recruitment content has to be honest

Somebody deciding whether to move their family several hundred kilometres north needs to see the town, the housing, the winter and the actual job. A polished video that hides all of that produces hires who leave in six months, and the client knows it.

Filming conditions are genuinely hard

Extreme cold, distance from power, long travel between sites, and safety induction before setting foot on an operation. Budget more time than a city shoot, and be explicit with clients about why the schedule looks the way it does.

French is the working language

The region operates in French and Quebec advertising rules apply. Mining companies with foreign owners and investors regularly need English versions, which is a straightforward and well paid second deliverable.
