For an ecommerce store, UGC is not a campaign: it is infrastructure. One well planned shoot feeds the product page, the ads, the emails and social for months. Most stores buy one video and use a tenth of what they paid for.
The four uses of a single shoot
The product page
A short video of the product in use, no music, no dates, with detail shots. It lifts page conversion and does not expire.
Paid media
The same footage with three different openings, each testing an angle. It is the use that requires a separate licence and carries the most value.
A ten second fragment in the abandoned cart or first purchase message.
Organic social
The rest of the material, cut into more informal pieces.
Asking for all of that in the brief of a single shoot costs twenty per cent more and multiplies what you get by four.
What actually converts in ecommerce
| Element | Why it converts |
|---|---|
| The real unboxing | How the box arrives, how long it takes, in what condition. It reduces the distrust of buying online, which in Argentina remains high. |
| The product at scale | Next to a familiar object. It is the leading cause of returns in almost every category. |
| Use over a week | Not the first impression: the second. |
| The answer to the negative review | Taking the most frequent objection from your comments and answering it on video converts better than any promotion. |
How to reduce returns
It is the most underestimated effect of UGC in ecommerce. A video showing real size, real material and real use narrows the gap between expectation and product.
In fashion, footwear and interiors, that reduction is worth more in margin than the lift in conversion. Measure it separately: it is the argument that justifies next year's budget.
How many pieces to buy
Six creators with three hooks each for paid media, plus a pack of detail shots without a face for product pages. With that, a mid sized store covers a quarter.
The Argentine calendar
Hot Sale in May, Cyber Monday in November, Mothers Day in October and Christmas. Creative is ordered four to six weeks before each.
