Costa Rica is a small market in population and a large one in money per head, and that completely changes how UGC works here. There are fewer brands than in Mexico or Colombia, but many pay in dollars and compare prices with the United States, not with Central America.

Who buys creator video

Tourism and hospitality

Hotels, resorts, tour operators, surf schools and adventure agencies. It is the sector that pays most and consumes the most content, especially ahead of high season.

Free zone and service companies

International companies based in Heredia, Alajuela and San Jose that need human corporate content to recruit staff and communicate culture.

Local retail and ecommerce

Shops, natural cosmetics brands, specialty coffee, fashion and supplements selling through Instagram and WhatsApp.

Agricultural exports and coffee

Farms and brands selling abroad that need to show origin and process.

Health, dentistry and wellness

A surprisingly active sector, fed by medical tourism.

Why the dollar changes the rules

In Costa Rica it is common to quote in dollars and collect in colones or in a dollar account. For the creator this is a double advantage: it gets you used to international pricing and makes you competitive when a foreign brand looks for content in Latin American Spanish.

There is also a less pleasant effect: a client paying in dollars expects international production standards. Clean audio, on time delivery and several hook versions.

Seasonality rules everything

The dry season, from December to April, concentrates tourism and with it the highest demand for content. Many brands film in January and February material they will use all year.

The creator who understands this does not wait for the peak: they pitch packages in October and November, when budgets are being decided and nobody else has called yet.

The size of the market is also its opportunity

With few professional UGC creators outside the metropolitan area, anyone who sets up in Guanacaste, Puntarenas or Limon quickly becomes the default option for brands that need to film there.

That geographic concentration is a sturdier competitive advantage than any aesthetic.

What this means if you start today

Choose a sector with money, not the one you find most fun. Tourism, wellness and coffee pay; local fashion pays less and competes more.

And prepare to work with clients outside the country from your first year: it is the natural path when the domestic market is small and your production cost is low.

Where to go next

The Costa Rican market rewards the creator who specialises and invoices properly. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator explains how to build that base.
