Limon does not look like the rest of Costa Rica, and that is exactly its advantage. Afro Caribbean culture, a different accent, different food, different music, and a coast running from Puerto Viejo to Tortuguero. For a creator working in user generated content, it means a visual and cultural product no other province can offer, in a market where almost nobody competes.

Port, bananas and the Caribbean

The port of Moin and the banana industry sustain the province's formal economy, with logistics, export and services around them. It is a B2B world that barely appears on social media.

The second leg is tourism, but a different kind: backpackers, surfers, nature and culture, concentrated in Puerto Viejo, Cahuita and Tortuguero, with a season of its own that does not match the Pacific one. The third is the city of Limon itself, with its retail, its clinics and its own life, which the rest of the country often ignores.

The sectors that hire in Limon

  • Caribbean tourism: small lodgings, hostels, nature tours, turtle watching and surf schools.
  • Caribbean food: rice and beans, pati, coconut cooking, sodas and local product brands, a category with enormous identity.
  • Culture and music: events, craft and cultural projects that need video documentation.
  • Local retail: shops, barbershops, gyms and city services.
  • Logistics and agriculture: bananas, cacao and the port, a formal client with budget and no creators.
  • Cacao and craft chocolate: farms and producers selling to tourists and exporting, with a very visual process.

Selling what only exists here

A national brand that wants to speak to the whole country needs, sooner or later, images and voices from the Caribbean. And a foreign brand looking for authentic Costa Rica does not want another white beach postcard: it wants colour, culture and real people.

A creator from Limon who presents exactly that, with their own accent and access to places nobody else films, holds a sales argument that does not depend on price. That positioning has to be stated explicitly in the profile and in the pitch, not left implicit.

Filming in the Caribbean: rain, humidity and green light

It rains a lot and unpredictably, so planning with margin is not optional. Humidity affects gear: store the phone with silica packets and dry it properly after every shoot.

Light, on the other hand, is a gift. Overcast sky diffuses the light and brings out saturated colour in vegetation and skin with no hard shadows. And forest green as a background is a free luxury the dry Pacific does not have.

What creators charge

As a reference: a single video for a local business starts around thirty five to seventy dollars. With a strong portfolio, ninety to two hundred and twenty dollars per video. Packages of three to five videos sell between two hundred and eighty and six hundred and fifty dollars. International tourism and national brands pay above that and usually invoice in dollars, while local retail pays in colones by SINPE Movil. Paid media rights are billed separately.

Where to go next

Limon offers a unique visual and cultural identity and minimal competition. To turn that into paid work, our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers building the portfolio, setting prices and closing the first collaborations.
