Nobody can feel a mattress through a screen. Here is what a creator can really show, and why the trial period is the only real argument.

The trial period is the product

That is what unlocks the sale, well before any description of the filling.

Nobody can assess a mattress in a shop in three minutes, and everybody knows it: what gets bought is the right to be wrong.

Three pieces of information to give clearly, read on screen exactly as they appear on the page: the length of the trial, what happens if it is returned, and who comes to collect it.

One precaution: never summarise those conditions, and do not burn them into the image, because they change from one year to the next.

What can really be shown

Five shots, and they replace every promise.

The decompression, described above.

Weight and bulk: two people to carry it up, the space it takes in a corridor, handling it alone.

The cover: what comes off, what washes, at what temperature, and what happens after the first wash.

The edge: what sinks when you sit down to put your shoes on, a daily gesture nobody films.

And the noise: the base, the slats, the movement on the other side of the bed.

The words that cannot be used

Four families of sentences, and they get a campaign pulled.

Any health claim: relieving, correcting, preventing a pain, a disorder or a condition.

Any sleep promise: sleeping better, sleeping longer, falling asleep faster.

Any recommendation addressed to a specific medical situation.

And any comparison with a device prescribed by a professional.

The working rule: the creator describes their experience, with a duration and conditions, and the brand supplies the authorised wordings in writing. The claims applicable to this category are checked with the competent authorities before publication.

A real seasonality

Three peaks, and they govern production.

Moving periods, when a bed changes at the same time as a home.

The September restart, with bedrooms being put back in order.

And the end-of-year commercial events, where this category does a significant share of its turnover.

One calendar rule: shoot in June and July, when creators are available, and keep files with no date and no promotion to cover all three peaks with the same production.

What the video can show

The mattressThe density under the hand, the weightA sleep promise
The textileThe material, the washing, the dryingAn effect on health
The installationThe unpacking and the setting upA guaranteed comfort period

What is filmed over time

The same bed after a month. The recovery of shape, the seams holding and the wear of the fabric say more than any in-store demonstration.

What is referred to the professional

Back pain, a sleeping position, a disorder or medical advice. The video shows the product and refers to the health professional, to be confirmed with a lawyer.

Who should speak

Three profiles, and the third is the rarest.

The person who has just changed bed, filmed at a fortnight, then at three months.

The couple, because half the objections concern movement on the other side of the mattress.

And the person who sleeps badly for ordinary reasons: heat, noise, shifted hours, a child waking up. That last profile speaks to almost everybody without ever touching medical ground, and that is precisely why it is the most useful in this category.
