Choosing a niche is the decision that raises your rate fastest. Not because it limits your work, but because a brand would rather pay double to someone who already understands its product than half to someone starting from zero.
Why this is even truer in France
The French market is mature: brands know what they are buying and compare profiles. A generalist creator is invisible there because they look like a hundred others.
Specialisation also speeds up production: you already know how to film a texture, which hook works in that sector and what to ask in the brief. You produce faster and charge more.
The sectors that pay well
- Cosmetics and skincare. The most active and the most repeat buying. Strong competition, but the highest volume in the market.
- Supplements and fitness. Sustained budgets, permanent need for new creative, few credible creators.
- Fashion and accessories. High volume, mid prices, very seasonal around sales and the holidays.
- Food and drink. From snack brands to fine grocers. Good margins if you know how to film food.
- Home and interiors. Underrated, solid budgets, very little competition.
- Services and apps. Fintech, insurance, education, health. They pay the best in the market, because explaining an intangible product credibly is rare.
- Parenting and early childhood. A narrow, very loyal niche: the barrier to entry works in your favour if you have children.
The ones that pay less
Neighbourhood restaurants, independent gyms, very small brands. They build a portfolio quickly, but they do not sustain a business.
How to choose yours
Three questions.
Do you have real context?
If you use the product, you understand the client's problem. That shows on camera.
Is there a budget?
Open the ad library and look at which brands in the sector are running ads in France. If nobody is running ads, there is no money.
Will you stick with it for a year?
The wrong niche gets abandoned after three months.
The niche almost nobody takes
B2B and professional services. Few creators want to film accounting software or a logistics solution, and yet those brands have budgets and almost no supply facing them.
It is the best competition to budget ratio in the French market.
