Starting in UGC in France requires neither an audience nor expensive gear. It requires method, an administrative status and a clear understanding of what the brand is actually buying.
Step 1: understand what you sell
You do not sell your profile. You sell video files the brand will run on its accounts, on its product page and above all in paid advertising. That is why follower count matters little and audio, light and script matter a lot.
Step 2: film your first pieces
Do not wait for a client. Take three products you already use, in a sector that interests you, and film three different formats: a thirty second testimonial, a usage demonstration and a short unboxing.
Vertical, near a window, phone propped up, microphone as close as possible. Cut every pause in the edit and add subtitles. That is already a portfolio.
Step 3: register as an auto entrepreneur
This is the step that unlocks the most clients. A brand or agency cannot pay you without an invoice, and in France the auto entrepreneur status is declared online, free of charge.
As long as you stay below the exemption threshold, you invoice without VAT while stating the corresponding wording on the invoice. Social contributions are paid as a percentage of the revenue you collect, which means setting money aside at every payment rather than at the end of the quarter.
Step 4: set your price
In France, a single video runs from a hundred to a hundred and eighty euros at the start and from two hundred to four hundred with a solid portfolio. Packs of three to five videos sell between four hundred and fifty and twelve hundred euros.
Rights for paid media, exclusivity and whitelisting are charged separately and usually add thirty to a hundred per cent of the base price.
Step 5: land the first clients
Write to brands whose product you genuinely use. Short message, two examples attached, clear price, delivery date. Digitally native brands answer quickly because they need fresh creative every week.
In parallel, put yourself where brands search. A profile on a UGC marketplace with your niche, your languages and your rates makes you findable by French and European brands that would never stumble onto your Instagram.
Step 6: move from one off jobs to recurring clients
Deliver on time, send two hook variants instead of one and propose a monthly package. A brand burning through ten pieces a month prefers a steady supplier to an occasional genius.
