Hiring a UGC creator in Costa Rica has one advantage and one limitation. The advantage: there are few professional creators, so the good ones are easy to identify. The limitation: there are few professional creators, so you have to look where they are.
Where to look
| Channel | What it gets you |
|---|---|
| UGC marketplaces | The fastest route, and the only one that gives you access to creators outside the central valley without knowing them personally. |
| Instagram and TikTok by location | Search by district, not just by sector. If you need to film in Guanacaste, a creator from San Jose will charge you for the journey. |
| Your own customers | The best creator for your brand is often someone who already bought from you. |
| Communication schools and universities | An underrated source of young creators with good technical skills and entry level rates. |
How to filter fast
The audio
If the sound is bad in their portfolio, it will be bad in your campaign.
The language
Ask whether they film in English and request an example. It is the variable that adds the most value in Costa Rica and cannot be assumed.
The location
Settle who pays for travel before discussing price. In a country with difficult roads, that is a real cost.
Delivery
Ask about turnaround before price.
What to pay
Sixty to a hundred and twenty dollars per video with a creator starting out, and a hundred and fifty to three hundred with a solid portfolio. Packs of three to five videos run from three hundred and fifty to nine hundred.
Paid media rights are quoted separately: thirty to a hundred per cent extra depending on duration and territory. If your ad will run in the United States, say so from the start: it changes the price and it is fair that it does.
The Costa Rican detail
Check the creator is registered with the revenue office and can issue an electronic invoice. Without that receipt, your accounts cannot record the expense.
It is the most frequent cause of collaborations falling through at the end, and one question in the first email settles it.
The brief to send
Product and the problem it solves, the main objection, three hooks, formats and durations, deadline, filming location and who covers travel, and the list of what cannot be claimed.
What to sign
An accepted email is enough if it states: what is delivered, how many rounds of changes, where the material may be used, for how long and in which territory, price, currency and payment date, and what happens if it is cancelled after filming.
