Fashion in Costa Rica is a small market with a particularity no foreign brand anticipates: the climate defines the clothing, and most fashion content in circulation is built for four seasons that do not exist here.

What actually converts

The try on

The garment worn, moving, on the real body of the person wearing it. Still the best performing format.

Honesty about sizing

"I am one metre sixty five and I wear a medium, it fits loose." It reduces returns and raises conversion at the same time.

How the fabric behaves in heat

Whether it breathes, whether it clings, whether it creases in the car. It is the real local question and almost nobody answers it.

Use in rain

It rains seven months a year. A garment that survives an afternoon downpour has an argument the competition does not communicate.

Three ways to style the same piece

It demonstrates versatility and justifies the price, which with imported product tends to be high.

Which creators to hire

Different bodies. It is the decision that most affects the result and the one most brands avoid.

And look for people from different contexts: the Central Valley, the coast, rural areas. Clothing that works in San Jose is not the same as clothing that works in Guanacaste, and showing that widens your audience instead of narrowing it.

The brief that produces good material

Include: the creator's measurements and the size they receive, the usage context, how the fabric behaves in heat and humidity, three hooks and the list of details that must be shown.

And always ask for movement. A still garment says nothing.

The export opportunity

If your brand sells outside the country, hire at least one creator who films in English. Costa Rican sustainable and resort wear brands have an international audience and almost none produce content in that audience's language.

The Costa Rican calendar

The peaks are December and the dry season, when tourism arrives and consumption rises, the February return to school, and Black Friday. The rainy season is slower except for waterproofs and closed footwear.
