Where to look, how to filter fast, how much to pay, and the contractual clauses a French brand cannot leave out.
Where to look in France
Five sources, in decreasing effectiveness.
Specialised marketplaces, where profiles display rates, turnarounds and formats.
Your own customers, by filtering the reviews containing a photo or a video.
Creators visible with brands in your category, identifiable through partnership disclosures.
Professional groups, often regional, where urgent requests circulate.
And recommendations from other brands, which save the testing step.
How to filter fast
The audio
It eliminates half the profiles in ten seconds. A voice covered by music or the echo of an empty room cost more to fix than a new order.
The right face
The criterion is not aesthetics, it is resemblance to your customers: age, home, habits. An interior resembling your customers' converts better than a perfect set.
The subtitles
Check they are cleanly embedded, without mistakes and without covering the image. A large share of views happens with no sound, and a badly placed subtitle makes the video unusable in advertising.
The delivery
Look at the stated turnaround, the real monthly capacity and the speed of reply to the first message, the best indicator of what follows.
How much to pay
Five variables determining the price.
The number of deliverables and their length.
The rights: duration, territory, paid advertising included or not.
Any exclusivity, which is priced and limited in time.
Travel, if there is any.
And the deadline requested, urgent work logically costing more.
One simple rule: ask for a line-by-line quote. A global price almost always hides poorly defined rights, and makes any extension impossible to negotiate.
The clauses a French brand cannot leave out
The transfer of rights, separately
It is drafted apart, with the duration, the territory, the channels and the advertising use. A general formula is not enough, and the exact scope of the transfer is checked with a lawyer.
The transparency disclosure
Any commissioned content is a commercial communication and has to be identifiable as such, including when published by the brand itself. The exact wording and its placement are checked with a lawyer.
The creator's status
A brand contracts with a registered person, able to issue a compliant invoice. The relationship must not take the form of a subordinate link, a point to be examined with a lawyer as soon as the work becomes regular, exclusive and supervised.
Personal data
Images of identifiable people and the corresponding authorisations fall under a precise framework, to be handled before the shoot and not at publication time.
What makes the difference on a crowded market
| Criterion | What it reveals | Where to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery regularity | Reliability | The number of orders met |
| Sound clarity | The technical level | Any full video |
| Rate transparency | Professionalism | The profile page |
What costs time and brings nothing
Contacting twenty profiles with the same message. Five precise messages naming the product and the budget produce more useful replies than twenty generic sends.
What you set up for later
A list of five creators tested and rated, with their city and speciality. That notebook makes the second campaign three times faster than the first.
What has to be signed
Five minimum clauses.
The object of the order and the deliverables.
The rights granted, their duration and their territory, with the price of an extension.
The number of revisions included.
The payment terms, with a deposit above a certain amount.
And what happens in case of delay, on both sides.
One last marker: in France the contractual side decides more often than the casting. An excellent video whose rights are badly written becomes unusable after six months, whereas a correct video with a clear contract works for two years.
