Foreign clients are not a luxury for a Costa Rican creator: they are the natural correction to a small, seasonal domestic market. And there are two advantages almost nobody exploits properly.

Your two real advantages

The time zone. Costa Rica works on practically the same schedule as much of the United States. A client in Texas writes at nine in the morning and has an answer before lunch. A creator in Europe replies the next day.

For a performance agency that needs creative fast, that is worth more than any price difference.

English. If you film in English with a clear accent, you enter a market ten times larger than the local one, with budgets no Costa Rican hotel can match.

Who buys

Who buysWhat they order
United States brands and agenciesThe main market, by proximity, language and schedule.
International tourism and adventure brandsThey want to film in Costa Rica without flying a crew in.
Spanish speaking brands in the United StatesThey need natural Latin American Spanish.
European brandsLess frequent, but they pay well and plan months ahead.

How to get paid

A dollar account, international payment platforms or marketplaces that handle collection. Settle before accepting: currency, who absorbs the fees, and payment terms.

And ask an accountant how to declare that income and what it means for your electronic invoicing. It is the part where most people improvise.

What changes in the brief

Foreign clients want a written brief, visual references, clear deadlines and several hook versions. They also expect communication in English, clear rather than perfect.

One detail that makes a difference: always deliver in the format and resolution they asked for, no exceptions. For an agency processing fifty deliveries a week, a badly exported file is reason enough not to call you again.

The mistake of quoting low

Many Costa Rican creators quote at local prices when selling abroad. Charge the price of the market you sell to.

A video a United States creator invoices at five hundred dollars should not cost eighty just because you live in Cartago. Three hundred is a competitive and honest price for both sides.

How they find you

Cold outreach works, but it is slow. A profile on a UGC marketplace with your niches, your languages and your rates makes you visible to clients you would never have contacted.
