Light is where most UGC videos fail in Germany, and the reason is not skill but geography: in winter many days do not leave four usable hours of daylight.
The winter problem
Between November and February the sun sets early and the sky is often overcast. Anyone filming after work in the evening is effectively always filming under artificial light. Anyone filming only in daylight loses half their possible shooting days.
The consequence: in Germany an LED panel is not a luxury purchase, it is the difference between delivering and declining. Around 60 euros, placed in front of you, slightly above eye level, pointing forward.
North facing rooms
Very common and actually an advantage: north light is even and casts no hard shadows. It is simply weaker. Move closer to the window, keep a pale surface opposite, and add the panel when needed.
South facing rooms in summer are the opposite: direct sun, hard shadows. There you need a diffusing curtain.
The order of purchases
- Nothing, for the first videos: window plus a pale curtain.
- An LED panel with a stand, about 60 euros, at the latest in your first winter.
- A second, smaller panel as fill, only for product shots with gloss or texture.
The mistake almost everyone makes
Leaving the ceiling light on. German ceiling lights sit centrally and light from above, which deepens under eye shadows and shifts skin tone. Switch it off and work with one directed source from the front.
And do not mix daylight and warm artificial light in the same frame: white balance can only choose one.

Is daylight enough in winter?
On a few days yes, predictably no. A panel makes you independent.
Are north facing rooms bad?
No, the light is even, just weaker.
Should you use the ceiling light?
No, switch it off. It lights from above and shifts colour.
What does a usable panel cost?
Around 60 euros with a stand covers UGC entirely.
