Video on the product page has a job in Germany that it does not have as sharply elsewhere: preventing the return before it happens. Fourteen days of withdrawal rights mean every purchase is initially only an advance.

Where the video goes

Below the image gallery, above the description. Not as the first element and not autoplaying. Someone on the page wants to see the product still first.

How long

Twenty to forty seconds. The visitor is already interested, they need answers, not a hook.

What it has to answer

Exactly the points that otherwise end up in the return reason field:

  1. Actual size next to a familiar object, not in centimetre figures.
  2. Material and feel close up, with hands in shot.
  3. Assembly or use, in the time it genuinely takes.
  4. What is included, shown in full.

A video that treats those four points honestly reduces the return rate more measurably than any checkout optimisation.

Subtitles are mandatory

Half the audience watches without sound. German automatic subtitles break on umlauts, compound words and the sharp s, so manual correction is part of the job. A video with wrong subtitles looks cheap, and cheap is the wrong signal for a product that needs explaining.

The most common mistake

Reusing the ad creative on the product page. The ad interrupts and promises, the product page reassures and proves. A promise made to someone who has already clicked creates suspicion rather than desire.
