In Brazil the school year starts in February, and that changes everything about the stationery category. The biggest sales week of the year happens in the middle of summer, with families coming back from holidays, the school supply list in hand and a budget squeezed by Christmas.
The real calendar
December: schools publish the list and families start comparing prices. January: the peak of searching and buying, and of stress. February: term starts and the second wave begins, for whatever was missing. Mid year: a smaller wave, replacement and winter items in some regions.
Practical consequence: the content has to be published in December, which means briefing in October. A stationery shop that decides to make video in January has already lost half the season.
The formats that sell
The supply list solved
Someone takes the school's list and shows how to buy everything, with prices and a cheaper alternative. It is the most searched content in the category.
The price comparison
Famous brand against generic, with an honest verdict on where saving makes sense.
Durability
A backpack after a year, a notebook that tears, a pencil case that opens by itself. Proof of quality that price alone cannot give.
Organisation
Covering notebooks, labelling, packing the bag. Simple content that gets shared heavily.
What is left over
Reusing last year's material. Counterintuitive for a brand, but it builds trust and reach.
Care with children on camera
The category speaks to parents and children at the same time, and that requires rules.
Written consent from guardians, specific: which platforms, which countries, for how long. No identifiable school uniform, no school name, no routine that reveals a schedule or an address. And the child is not the one selling: the child uses the material, while the adult explains and recommends.
Advertising aimed at children has its own rules in Brazil and is taken seriously. Price must not be trivialised, and what is not in the package has to be clear.
Practical notes for the brand
Send the product in November. In December the logistics are saturated.
Work with creators who are parents, with a child of the right age. Credibility comes from there.
Give real prices and links that work, because this category is decided on price.
Agree usage rights with a defined term, especially for anything featuring a child: that content should not run indefinitely.
Where to go next
Back to school rewards brands that publish in December and measure in February. Our complete UGC guide for brands covers briefing, usage rights and running creator content as a repeatable process.
