Most creators who abandon UGC do not fail for lack of talent. They fail because of seven habits that quietly drain the business, month after month.

1. Charging by the hour instead of by deliverable

If you improve and take half the time, you earn half. It is a model that punishes experience.

Charge by piece and by licence. Your speed should raise your margin, not cut it.

2. Giving away paid media rights

This is the most expensive mistake in the craft. A video running for six months in advertising is worth far more than one posted once organically, and the difference is charged separately.

If you do not break it out in the quote, you are handing over the most valuable part for free.

3. Not writing down the scope

Without an email stating how many pieces, how many rounds of changes and which formats, the project grows on its own. It starts with three videos and ends with seven, at the same price.

Two rounds included, the third is quoted. In writing, always.

4. Accepting trade deals for material headed to paid media

A product in exchange for content can make sense early on, to build a portfolio. It stops making sense the moment the brand puts money behind distributing that video.

At that point it is advertising, and advertising is paid in money.

5. Depending on a single client

When one client represents more than half your revenue, you do not have a business: you have a job without stability. The day they stop, you stop.

The healthy rule is that no client should exceed thirty per cent of monthly income.

6. Not setting aside tax when you get paid

In Argentina this mistake costs double. If you do not separate the tax and contribution percentage at the moment of payment, inflation eats the money before the due date arrives.

Separate account, immediate transfer, no exceptions.

7. Cutting the price instead of cutting the scope

When the client says it is a lot, the right answer is not a discount: it is offering less. Two videos instead of three.

Lowering the price once lowers it forever with that client, and with anyone who asks them.

The silent mistake

Producing without selling. Many creators spend weeks improving their editing and zero hours writing to brands. Quality does not compensate for the absence of outreach.

Where to go next

Avoiding these seven mistakes is worth more than any technical improvement. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers the base of the craft.
