The choice of platforms decides less about your creativity than about your deliverables. Here, one particularity changes everything: a large share of videos travels from phone to phone.
Instagram Reels
It is the shop window, and the place where people check that a business exists.
The audience watches daily life, recognisable places and faces. A video that is too clean passes for an advert there, and one that is too rough passes for an abandoned account.
Deliver a vertical format, a visual hook in the first second, and a version with no burnt-in text so the brand can add its own.
TikTok
It is the place of discovery, not of verification.
The pace is faster, the tone more direct, and tolerance for staging is lower than elsewhere. What works: somebody talking to camera while walking, a problem shown, a quick answer.
It is also the platform where the codes change most often. Copy the structure of the videos working now, not those of a year ago.
Paid advertising
That is the outlet funding most serious orders.
Here the video is not published, it is broadcast. That requires a clean master, several openings for the same body, subtitles, and framing that leaves the top and bottom bands free for the interface.
Always ask whether the video will be used in advertising: it changes the shoot, the rights and the price.
YouTube
It is the long memory.
A video published here is still found two years later, by somebody searching for exactly your subject. It is the platform of explanations, comparisons and long tours, and the one hotels and schools underuse most.
The short format exists there too and serves as a door into the long video.
Booking sites and product pages
That is where the video turns into money.
A video placed on a product page or a booking page is not seeking attention: it answers an objection at the precise moment it arises. Short format, no music, with verifiable information.
Ask the brand for the three questions most often asked before purchase, and film three answers.
WhatsApp Business
It is the sales channel, and it is underestimated in briefs.
A good share of purchases is concluded in a conversation: questions about availability, sending a catalogue, confirming a booking. The video serves there as a quick answer, sent by the person selling.
That implies short files, clearly named, and filed in a folder the team can find without you. A video that cannot be found is not sent.
Five criteria for comparing two platforms
| Criterion | What you check | Where to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to the creator | Sign-up and commission | The published terms |
| Payment safety | When the brand places the funds | The how-it-works page |
| Real demand | Number of active listings | The catalogue, without an account |
| Filters | Country, language, category | The public search |
What to test before investing time
A complete profile, two applications, and watching the reply time: three weeks are enough to decide.
What one order cannot tell you
A first refusal says nothing. The useful signal is the number of requests received over a full month.
What this changes for your deliverables
One rule, applied to every order.
Always deliver four things: the clean master, the publishable version with subtitles, the light version described above, and the separate source files.
Name them with the client's name, the subject and the date. It is that administrative detail, not the quality of the shoot, that decides how many times your video is actually used.
