Natal has three hundred days of sun a year, and for anyone filming video that is a business asset. The capital of Rio Grande do Norte is built between dunes, river and ocean, with light that most creators in the South of Brazil would pay for. Add a tourism economy, a growing service sector and very little local competition in user generated content, and you get a city where a creator can build a serious portfolio without ever fighting for attention in Sao Paulo.

A capital that lives on sun, sea and visitors

Natal's economy runs on tourism first. Ponta Negra, the dunes of Genipabu, the beaches to the north and south, the hotels and pousadas, the buggy tours and the restaurants all depend on people deciding, from a screen somewhere else, that this is where they want to go. That decision is made by video now, not by brochures.

Around tourism sits the rest of the local economy: shrimp and fruit production, retail, wind energy, clinics, schools and a young population that grew up on Instagram and TikTok. The city also has a long dry season, which for a creator means a shooting calendar with almost no weather risk.

The niches that hire in Natal

Local demand concentrates in a few clear categories, and a portfolio aimed at them fills faster than a generic one.

  • Tourism and hospitality: hotels, pousadas, restaurants, tours, transfers and everything sold to a visitor before they arrive.
  • Beachwear and fashion: swimwear, beach fashion and accessories, a natural fit for a city where the beach is the everyday setting.
  • Food and drink: seafood restaurants, regional cuisine, delivery, small food brands from the Northeast.
  • Beauty and wellness: sun care, hair care for beach and salt water, aesthetics clinics, gyms and nutrition.
  • Local retail and services: malls, real estate, private schools, health clinics and professional services aimed at the city's middle class.

How local creators find clients

The local route starts with proximity. Hotel managers, restaurant owners and shop managers are reachable, and WhatsApp is where the negotiation actually happens. A short pitch with two or three examples, sent to a business you genuinely visit, converts far better than a generic message. One satisfied hotel usually leads to two more, because in tourism everybody knows everybody.

The bigger opportunity is national. Brands in the Southeast constantly need beach and sun footage, and they need it out of season, when Sao Paulo is grey and Natal is not. A creator who positions clearly as a Northeast based creator with beach access, good light and reliable delivery becomes valuable to brands who have no one on the ground there. Registering on a UGC marketplace makes that discoverable, so a brand searching for beach lifestyle in Portuguese finds a profile rather than needing a referral.

Filming and delivering from the Northeast

The physical work is the easy part here. You shoot at home, on the beach or in a location, you edit on a phone or a laptop, and you deliver the files online. Two practical points matter. Shipping from the Southeast takes longer, so add a week to any campaign that depends on a product arriving, and say so up front. And strong midday sun, which looks generous, is actually the worst light of the day: film early morning or late afternoon, and use shade rather than fighting the glare.

Sound is the other local trap. Wind on the beach ruins more footage than anything else. A cheap wind cover for a lapel microphone pays for itself in a single job.

What creators can charge

Rates in Natal depend on experience, usage rights and turnaround. A single UGC video for a local business commonly sits between R$ 150 and R$ 400 when you are starting. Creators with a strong portfolio often charge R$ 400 to R$ 900 per video, and packages of three to five videos are usually sold between R$ 1.000 and R$ 3.000. National clients pay above local rates, and international clients more again, which is the main reason to build a portfolio that travels beyond the state. Paid media rights, exclusivity and extended licensing are always billed separately. Treat these as reference points, not fixed prices.

Where to go next

Natal gives you light, scenery and a tourism economy that needs video all year, with a fraction of the competition of the big centres. The work is turning that into a portfolio brands elsewhere can find. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers building it, pricing your work and landing your first paid collaborations, from Natal or anywhere else in Brazil.
