Brittany produces a very large share of what France eats, and the companies behind that are in and around Rennes. They are unglamorous, they have real budgets, and almost no creator is talking to them. That is the opportunity here.
The client map
Food companies
Dairy, pork and poultry, biscuits, ready meals, vegetables, seafood. Some are national brands, many are cooperatives or private label manufacturers now building their own direct to consumer brands. They need product video, recruitment video and explanation of how things are made.
Technology
Rennes has a long standing telecoms and research cluster, with software companies that need clear demos and employer content.
Students
A large university population supports the usual younger categories, plus a strong music and festival culture.
Retail and services
A dense city centre, and a regional habit of buying local that gives smaller brands real support.
Why food companies are good clients
They buy in blocks. A brand with fifteen products needs fifteen videos, not one. They repeat seasonally. And their competitors are doing the same thing badly, which makes a creator who can shoot clean food content immediately visible.
The skill is not styling, it is honesty. Real hands, real preparation, real texture, a claim the company is legally allowed to make, and sound that is not just music. If you can also explain a process, from farm to packaging, you cover recruitment and corporate briefs too.
The weather is part of the plan
Brittany gets rain and grey days, and a creator who promises outdoor sunshine in October is setting up a problem. Build a reliable indoor setup: a table by the largest window you have, a cheap diffuser, and a daylight lamp for the days the window gives nothing.
Shoot exteriors opportunistically. When the light appears, film generic b roll and keep it for later briefs.
Rates
A single video for a local business commonly runs 90 to 160 euros when starting, and 220 to 450 euros with a portfolio. Packs of three to five sell between 600 and 1,400 euros. Food manufacturers and tech companies negotiate above that, especially when they want usage rights for paid media or a version for recruitment.
The practical part
Auto entrepreneur status lets you invoice from the first job. Watch the VAT threshold as you grow. For factory or workshop shoots, agree in writing what may be filmed, who appears, and whether the footage can be used abroad, because food companies are careful about production areas and staff.
Put usage rights in the quote, by scope and duration. A video that runs as an ad for a year is not the same product as a video posted once.
Where to go next
Rennes rewards a creator who specialises in product and process. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers the portfolio, the pricing and how to approach companies that have never hired a creator before.
