Living off UGC in Spain is possible, but the maths is not done with enthusiasm: it is done on a spreadsheet. And there is one number almost nobody includes at first.
The calculation most people get wrong
Work out how much you need per month to live. Then add the self employed contribution, the income tax you will eventually settle, and a cushion for quiet months.
That combination usually adds thirty to forty per cent to the initial figure. If you need fifteen hundred euros net, your real revenue target is around two thousand.
At an average price of two hundred euros per video, that is ten pieces a month. Producing them is not the problem; selling them every month is.
The recurring client rule
A creator who lives off this does not have ten different clients a month. They have three or four taking two or three pieces each.
That is the real threshold: three or four recurring clients on a monthly package. With that the base is covered, and one off work becomes profit rather than survival.
When not to quit your job yet
- If you do not have at least three months of expenses saved.
- If your UGC income has not covered your floor for three consecutive months.
- If more than half your revenue comes from a single client.
- If you have never had a bad month. You will have one, and it is better to have it while still on a payslip.
In Spain the healthy path is usually hybrid: keep the job, produce in the evenings and at weekends, and register when the side income matches the salary for a quarter.
The contribution detail
The first months as a self employed worker usually carry a reduced contribution, which makes the start look easier than it will later be. Work out your viability with the full contribution, not the discounted one.
That mistake explains a good share of the people who quit after eighteen months.
The quiet months that exist
August is slow in Spain. January too, until the campaigns start. December, by contrast, tends to be strong because brands produce for Christmas and the sales.
Planning with that in mind means selling packages in October and November, not waiting for the phone to ring in January.
Where to go next
Living off UGC is a consequence of selling methodically, not of producing more. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers that base.
