Asking which platform to work on is the wrong question. As a user generated content creator you are not publishing for your own audience: you are delivering files the brand will use wherever it suits them. But each platform imposes its format, and knowing which one the client wants changes how you film.
Where Argentine audiences actually watch
Instagram remains the centre of gravity for consumption and commerce. It is where most local brands keep their shop window, where sales messages land, and where a small brand closes orders in private conversation.
TikTok leads on discovery and entertainment formats, with a younger audience and far more tolerance for the homemade. YouTube carries weight in long form and tutorial style searches, and is still where people go to resolve a doubt before buying something expensive.
And there is a channel that is not a social network but decides sales: WhatsApp. In Argentina, much of the commercial conversation ends there, and a short video sent privately converts as well as an ad, sometimes better.
What brands buy for each one
- Instagram Reels: thirty to sixty second pieces, with a strong hook and subtitles, made for the feed and for paid media alike.
- TikTok: rawer formats, conversational tone, trends adapted to the creator's own style. Overproduced work performs worse.
- YouTube Shorts: reuse of the same vertical pieces, with less pressure to follow a trend.
- Product pages and ecommerce: clean demonstrations, no music, explaining size, texture and use.
- WhatsApp and direct selling: short videos answering one concrete objection, to send one to one.
What that changes in how you film
Always film vertically and at the best quality your phone allows, because a good file yields several crops. Leave air at the top and bottom of the frame: each platform covers different zones with its interface.
Deliver subtitles, and if you can, deliver the file without music baked in. The brand often needs to change the audio for paid media or for another market.
And deliver hook variations. The first two seconds are what the client will test, and giving three options instead of one makes you far more valuable than charging slightly less.
The most common mistake
Choosing a platform by personal taste rather than by the brief. If the brand is going to run ads on Meta, your piece has to work without sound and keep the logo away from the edge. If it is going to TikTok, it has to sound like a person and not a commercial. It is the same amount of work, but the wrong deliverable means reshooting.
Where to go next
In Argentina, Instagram sells, TikTok discovers, YouTube explains and WhatsApp closes. A creator who delivers with that circuit in mind charges more than one who delivers a loose video. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator covers building the portfolio and pricing that work.
