Premium and luxury are built on control: of image, of narrative, of price, of distribution. UGC consists of handing part of the narrative to somebody else. The question is therefore not whether these brands should do UGC, but which part of the narrative they can actually delegate.

What UGC will not do for a premium brand

It will not replace the image campaign. A brand selling a thousand euro object needs art direction, and a phone filmed in a kitchen does not produce it.

It will not create desirability through volume. A category that lives on scarcity gains nothing from appearing everywhere.

And it must never suggest the product is ordinary, easy to get or negotiable.

What it does very well

The moment after the purchase

The unboxing, the first use, the in store service, the ritual. That is where premium proves itself, and exactly what a campaign cannot show.

The explanation of value

Why that price: the material, the making, the lifespan, the repairability. Factual, calm content convinces better than a speech.

Service and warranty

A buyer hesitating over a large amount wants to know what happens if the product breaks.

The long life of the object

One year later, two years later. It is the most credible content in the whole category and nobody produces it.

The rules to set

Strict creator selection, on technical quality and coherence, not on audience size.

A written frame on what cannot be shown: store interiors without agreement, crossed out prices, discounts, promises of availability.

Precise rights and a short duration, because a premium brand does not want a face associated with it indefinitely.

And a real technical requirement: tripod, clean sound, consistent colour. In this category, a sloppy image damages more than it earns.

Where to go next

Premium does not delegate its brand, it delegates the proof. Our complete UGC guide for brands covers briefing, usage rights and process.
