Choosing a niche is the decision that raises your rate fastest. Not because it limits your work, but because a brand would rather pay double to someone who already understands its product than half to someone starting from zero.
Why specialising doubles the price
A generalist creator competes with everyone. A cosmetics creator competes with five people in their city.
Specialisation also speeds up production: you already know how to film a texture, which hook works in that sector and what to ask in the brief. You produce faster and charge more.
The sectors that pay well in Spain
- Cosmetics and skincare. The most active and the most repeat buying. High competition, but also the highest volume.
- Supplements and fitness. Sustained budgets and a constant need for new creative.
- Fashion and accessories. High volume, mid prices, very seasonal around sales and campaigns.
- Food and drink. From specialty coffee to olive oil and gourmet preserves. Good margins if you know how to film food.
- Home and interiors. An undervalued sector, with solid budgets and little competition between creators.
- Services and apps. Banking, insurance, education, health. They pay well because explaining an intangible product is hard.
The ones that pay less
Neighbourhood hospitality, local tourism and micro businesses. They should not be dismissed early on, because they build a portfolio quickly, but they do not sustain a business.
How to choose yours
Three questions.
Do you have real context?
If you use the product, you understand the client's problem and speak their language. That shows on camera.
Is there a budget?
Look at your own feeds to see which brands in that sector are running ads. If nobody is advertising, there is no money.
Will you stick with it for a year?
The wrong niche gets abandoned after three months. Pick one that will not bore you.
The regional niche advantage
In Spain there is a move almost nobody makes: combining a niche with a region. "UGC creator for natural cosmetics in Andalusia" is a far easier positioning to sell than "UGC creator".
Brands that need to film in a physical shop in that area find you before anyone else.
The mistake of choosing by trend
Many creators pick the most visible niche of the moment and end up competing with a hundred people. The boring, well paid niche always outperforms the glamorous, saturated one.
Where to go next
A clear niche makes your portfolio, your media kit and your outreach work together. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator explains how to build that set.
