Hiring a creator in Canada starts with a question most brands ask third and should ask first: which language does this campaign need, and can this person deliver it natively.

Ask about language in the first message

Native English, native French, Quebec French or international French, and whether they can deliver both. That single question filters the shortlist faster than any portfolio review and prevents the most common late stage surprise in Canadian campaigns.

What to look for in a profile

Whether the work is clearly theirs, whether the sound is clean, whether they show more than one kind of video, and whether they say plainly what they deliver. Follower counts tell you nothing about whether a file will arrive on Thursday in the format you asked for.

What to ignore

Production polish. A creator with a cinematic showreel is often the wrong hire for content that has to look like it came from a customer. In UGC, high production values reduce performance, which is counterintuitive until you see the numbers.

The trial job

Before committing to a campaign, buy one video. It costs little, it reveals turnaround, communication and how the person handles a correction, and those three things predict the collaboration better than any interview. Most disappointing hires would have been caught by a single paid test.

Where to look outside the big cities

Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are the crowded markets. Creators in Halifax, Winnipeg, Quebec City or Saskatoon are often more available, more responsive and just as capable, and they bring settings that do not look like every other brand's content.
