The objection always comes up: I have no followers, so I cannot do this. It is the most expensive misunderstanding in the job, because it confuses two different businesses. An influencer sells their audience. A user generated content creator sells video files. Two different products, with two different buyers.
Why brands do not look at your account
When a brand hires you for UGC, it is not going to post on your profile. It is going to use your video on its own channels, on its product page and above all in paid advertising, where reach is bought with money rather than with your community.
What it evaluates instead is something else: whether the audio is clear, whether your face is well lit, whether you sound like a real person, and whether the video has a hook that holds attention in the first two seconds. None of that depends on how many people follow you.
What they do look at
- The portfolio: three to six videos that look like ads, not vlogs.
- Clarity on camera: no reading, no stumbling, good pace.
- Basic technique: vertical, window light, clean audio, subtitles.
- Reliability: whether you answer fast, deliver on time and can invoice.
- The niche: someone showing five skincare videos sells better than someone showing one of each category.
How to start from zero, concretely
Film four videos with products already in your home, in the category that interests you. A testimonial, a demonstration, an unboxing and an answer to a typical objection about that product.
Then write to ten brands whose product you genuinely use, with a short message: who you are, what you do, two samples attached, a clear price and a date. Do not ask for free product in exchange for exposure: offer a service with a price, even if the price is low at first.
And put your profile where brands search. A UGC marketplace profile with your niche, your languages and your prices is the most direct way to be found without an audience, because there the search criterion is not how many people follow you.
The reverse misunderstanding
It is also untrue that having a large following is worthless. It is worth something, but for a different business: selling posts on your own profile, which is the influencer model with its own rules. You can do both, but be clear about which one you are selling in each pitch.
What you can charge without an audience
Exactly what any other UGC creator charges, because the price is set by the deliverable and the usage rights, not by your reach. In Argentina that means starting at the equivalent of thirty to sixty dollars per video and moving to eighty or two hundred with a solid portfolio, with paid media charged separately.
Where to go next
You do not need an audience, you need four good videos, a way to invoice and visibility where hiring happens. Our guide on how to become a UGC creator lays out that path step by step.
