Gaming audiences are the most hostile to advertising and the most loyal when a brand gets it right. In France there is an additional requirement: disclosure is mandatory, and this audience punishes anyone who works around it.

Why they reject advertising

Because they detect it. A video that opens with the brand logo, an enthusiastic line or a broadcaster tone is dead within one second. Worse: it generates negative comments the brand sees in public.

What they accept instead

  • The honest opinion, flaws included. "The microphone is excellent, the software is a disaster."
  • A demonstration in real use. An actual match, not a staged one.
  • The comparison with what they had before. Concrete, with numbers.
  • The full setup. What it cost, what was bought first, what they would do differently. The best converting format in peripherals.
  • Self aware humour. Acknowledging the partnership with humour works far better than hiding it.

Disclosure, non negotiable and profitable

In France, the commercial nature of a video must be identifiable. With this audience, that is not a constraint: it is an advantage.

A creator who announces the partnership in the first seconds and then gives a nuanced opinion generates more trust than one who hides it. The audience would find out anyway, and finding out on their own is what triggers the negative reaction.

Specify the wording and its placement in the brief. Never leave it to improvisation.

Which creators to hire

The one who genuinely plays your product's genre. A shooter player talking about a management simulator convinces nobody.

And look for mid sized creators before big streamers. The trust relationship is stronger and the cost a fraction.

The brief that produces good material

Include: what can be criticised and what cannot, the gameplay context, three hooks, the disclosure wording and what must be visible.

Explicitly authorising criticism of one aspect of the product multiplies the credibility of everything else.

The French calendar

The peaks are Black Friday, Christmas, major launches and sector fairs. School holidays drive volume all year.
