In Italy the three platforms that matter for UGC are Instagram, TikTok and, increasingly, YouTube in short form. But what really changes your work is not where the audience watches, it is what the brand buys for each one.

Instagram

The most mature platform for Italian brands, especially in fashion, beauty and food. Reels are the dominant format, and brands buy vertical videos of 15 to 30 seconds designed to be both posted and run as ads.

What you deliver: 9:16, tight pacing, captions centred so they do not end up under the interface, and a raw file with no burned in logo.

TikTok

The audience is younger and tolerance for anything that looks like advertising is lower. A video that is too polished gets skipped. Italian brands arrived here later than in France or Germany, which means demand is growing now.

What you deliver: an even faster opening, conversational tone, and if the brand plans Spark Ads, the authorisation code must be agreed at the order.

YouTube short form

The fastest growing segment and one almost no Italian creator covers explicitly. Useful for products that need explaining, because the platform rewards watch time.

What you deliver: same vertical format, but tolerance for 45 or 60 seconds when the content justifies it.

What changes for you

The base footage is the same; pacing, length and opening change. The practical consequence: offer the client two edits of the same material rather than two shoots. It costs little and is worth a lot, because the brand gets two testable creatives.

And always ask which platforms the video will run on, because rights are negotiated per platform.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform pays best?

None in itself: what pays is the ad right, negotiated per platform.

Do you need a presence on the platforms?

Not to do UGC. Yes to be found, with a bio that states the job.

Does one video work everywhere?

The footage yes, the edit no. Pacing and length must be adapted.

What are Spark Ads?

The TikTok format that runs the ad from your account, using a code you generate.
